Psychic types were so dominant in Gen 1 that the developers had to introduce Dark and Steel to balance the game. Even today, Psychic types are among the best special attackers and bulkiest walls in the game.

- Alakazam — Magic Guard ability and 135 Sp.Atk.
- Deoxys-Attack — 180 Attack and 180 Sp.Atk, glassy but terrifying.
- Latios / Latias — Dragon/Psychic with Levitate and strong bulk.
- Necrozma Dusk Mane — Psychic/Steel with 157 Attack.
- Gardevoir — Mega form with Pixilate boosts Hyper Voice.
- Espeon — Magic Bounce bounces back hazards automatically.
Psychic Strengths
Psychic hits Fighting and Poison for super-effective damage and is very common in competitive movesets. The introduction of Psychic Terrain in Gen 7 (courtesy of Tapu Lele) made Psychic moves 50% stronger under the right conditions and blocked priority moves — a huge shift in the meta.
The Dark Problem
Dark types are immune to Psychic, which is the hard counter. Bug and Ghost also hit Psychic for 2x. Pokemon like Scizor, Tyranitar, and Weavile exist specifically to shut down Psychic cores.
