Top 10 Dragon Type Pokemon

Dragon types are famously overpowered. They resist four types, have massive Base Stat Totals, and access some of the best movepools in the game. Here are the ten Dragons every trainer should chase.

The Top 10

  1. Rayquaza — 680 BST, legendary Sky Dragon with 150 Attack and Special Attack.
  2. Dialga — Steel/Dragon, 680 BST, the Time Lord of Sinnoh.
  3. Palkia — Water/Dragon, 680 BST, perfect dual-type coverage.
  4. Giratina — Ghost/Dragon in Origin Form, devastating Shadow Force users.
  5. Zekrom — Electric/Dragon, 680 BST, hits like a truck with Bolt Strike.
  6. Reshiram — Fire/Dragon, 680 BST, one of the best sun sweepers.
  7. Kyurem-Black — Ice/Dragon fusion with 170 Attack.
  8. Garchomp — 600 BST pseudo-legendary, fast and physically devastating.
  9. Dragonite — The original pseudo-legendary, Multiscale ability.
  10. Salamence — Aerilate Mega form made this a tier-defining threat.

Why Dragons Dominate

Their stats are simply huge. Pseudo-legendaries like Garchomp, Dragonite, and Salamence all have 600 BST — the highest any non-legendary gets. Legendaries push to 680. Combined with access to Draco Meteor, Outrage, and Dragon Dance, they out-muscle almost every other type.

How to Beat Them

The introduction of Fairy type in Gen 6 finally gave Dragons a hard counter. Fairies resist Dragon, are immune to Dragon moves, and hit Dragons for super-effective damage. Ice type still works but Ice Pokemon are mostly frail and rarely survive long enough to land a hit.
