The Legendary Beasts — Raikou (Electric), Entei (Fire), Suicune (Water) — are the Johto trio. Unlike most legendaries, they were roamers in the original Gold and Silver, fleeing from every encounter and making them extremely difficult to catch.
Raikou — Electric
Raikou has 115 Sp.Atk and 115 Speed — making it one of the fastest special attackers in the game. Its signature ability Volt Absorb (in some forms) heals it on Electric attacks. Competitive sets run Choice Specs Thunderbolt with Hidden Power coverage for devastating results.
Entei — Fire
Entei is the physical one of the trio, with 115 Attack and only 90 Sp.Atk. Its signature move is Sacred Fire, a 100-power Fire attack with a 50% burn chance. Entei\'s ability Pressure wears down opposing PP quickly, making stall matchups miserable for opponents.
Suicune — Water
Suicune is the bulkiest of the three with 100 HP, 115 Defense, and 115 Sp.Def. Its famous competitive set is CroCune — Calm Mind, Rest, Surf, Scald. Calm Mind boosts its already-high Sp.Atk and Sp.Def, while Rest heals it back to full, creating an unkillable sweeper.
Signature Theme
All three beasts follow a "noble spirit" theme and were said to be resurrected by Ho-Oh after a burned tower killed their previous incarnations. Their designs borrow from mythological big cats — a saber-toothed tiger (Raikou), a lion (Entei), and a panther/cheetah hybrid (Suicune).
Catching Them
In the original games, they roamed the entire Johto map. In later games, they appear at fixed locations after certain events. In Pokeworld, expect them in Johto-themed Elite Zones with radar support.
