Highest Base Stats — Strongest Pokemon

Base Stat Total (BST) is the sum of a Pokemon\'s six base stats — HP, Attack, Defense, Sp.Atk, Sp.Def, and Speed. It\'s the simplest measure of raw power. Most Pokemon sit between 400 and 600 BST. The strongest break 700. Here is the ranking.

The 720+ BST Club

  1. Arceus — 720 BST (120 across all stats)
  2. Mega Mewtwo X / Y — 780 BST
  3. Primal Groudon — 770 BST
  4. Primal Kyogre — 770 BST
  5. Mega Rayquaza — 780 BST
  6. Eternamax Eternatus — 1125 BST (banned from all play)

The 680 BST Legendary Club

Most box-cover legendaries share this total: Rayquaza, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Xerneas, Yveltal, Solgaleo, Lunala, Zacian, Zamazenta, Koraidon, Miraidon. They\'re all 680 BST and extremely powerful in battle.

The 600 BST Pseudo Club

Pseudo-legendaries sit at exactly 600 BST: Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross, Salamence, Garchomp, Hydreigon, Goodra, Kommo-o, Dragapult, Baxcalibur. These are the strongest non-legendary Pokemon and often outperform weaker legendaries in practice.

Does BST Tell the Whole Story?

No. Slaking has 670 BST and 160 base Attack, but its ability Truant forces it to skip every second turn, making it nearly unusable. Shuckle has 505 BST with 230 Defense and Sp.Def — the highest defensive stats in the game — but only 5 HP and 10 Attack. Stat distribution matters as much as the total.

The Strongest "Normal" Pokemon

If you exclude legendaries, Megas, and Primals, the strongest Pokemon are the 600 BST pseudos. Among them, Garchomp, Metagross, and Dragapult top most competitive tier lists.
